Sweet Happenings from Your Sweetheart – Volume 2, Issue 1
Hi, my name is Mariah Law — your 2012 Sweetheart! I look forward to getting to know all of the Sigma Chis that I possibly can. This year I'll keep everyone updated on Eta Iota events and undergrad news in each issue, continuing the excitement of learning about the accomplishments of the chapter.
A Little About Me
This past year at White Elephant I was named the 2012 Sweetheart of Eta Iota — I'm so honored! I'm a sophomore at ERAU majoring in Space Physics with an Astronomy minor, serving as Secretary of Sigma Sigma Sigma, on the Orientation Team, and a Resident Advisor in Doolittle Hall. My plan for this year is to help the chapter with campus/community involvement, recruitment, and organization, and be there for every brother whenever they need me.
Meet the Executive Officers – 2012
Consul — Tim Englehardt, from Bradford, MA, studies Meteorology and hopes to become a broadcast meteorologist (already doing weather for ERAU's Eaglecast). He's previously held Kustos, Tri-Province Co-Chairman, Finance Chairman, Tribune, Assistant Magister, and Risk Manager, and is on the Orientation Team. His goals this semester: improving chapter GPA and community/campus involvement.
Pro Consul — Matt Otto, a sophomore studying Homeland Security (Terrorism Studies and Safety Science minors), has held House Manager, Assistant Magister, and Pro Consul. A former professional paintball player who once co-owned a paintball field in Tampa, he holds the record for the largest bore killed in Hillsborough County (making the front page of a local hunting magazine) and enjoys hunting, fishing, and shooting sports.
Annotator — Francisco Gonzales, an Aeronautics major, dreams of flying search-and-rescue for the Forest Service. He loves hiking and plans to backpack across the U.S. this summer.
Magister — Trevor Simms, from Long Island, NY, is in his second consecutive semester as Magister (Gamma Mu pledge class) and initiated 16 new brothers in 2011. He plans to write a step-by-step Magister guide for future chapter leaders, plays club volleyball for ERAU, and is a member of Iota Alpha Tau honor society.

The 2nd Annual Norman Shield Award
At HI's 41st Birthday, I'll present the 2nd Annual Norman Shield Award to the brother who best exemplifies Sigma Chi's values. The award began last year, created by 2011 Sweetheart Michelle Rodio — its first recipient, Jim Baldyga, is now working as a co-op for American Airlines in Dallas. I'll work with the Scholarship Chair to track grades and set up study hours; brothers who report their grades weekly, attend study hours, help tutor others, and stay active in recruitment/philanthropic/social events while paying dues on time will be considered. The winner is decided by me and a chapter-wide vote. Donations can be sent to me or Quaestor Dan Duquette.
