Sweet Happenings from Your Sweetheart – Issue Nine

Undergraduate Chapter

Fall Recruitment Knocked It Out of the Park!

Mission 365 Recruitment Seminar (Sept. 10th), with help from Fraternity staff and alumni Derek Pizzo and Chuck Bonini, set the chapter up for a huge Activities Fair and Meet the Greeks turnout. Recruitment week (starting Sept. 19th) hosted a full slate of events and pledged in 29 guys — thanks in part to custom Recruitment Business Cards, donated by alumnus Nick Weiss, that every brother (and the Sweetheart!) handed out.

Recruitment week: Monday — beach BBQ, football, and waves with potentials; Tuesday — bowling at Ormond Lanes; Wednesday — Go-Kart City (mini-golf, batting cages, go-karts); Thursday — house tour and Buffalo Wild Wings; Friday — the traditional Spaghetti Dinner, with speakers Consul Taylor Quackenbush, Chapter Advisor Brian Lojko, and alumni Derek Pizzo and Chuck Bonini, plus visits from alumni Arash Sabet-Rasekh and Chris Haun throughout the week.

As Sweetheart, I made sure everyone was well fed too — strawberry shortcake, blue and gold cupcakes, chocolate brownies, buffalo chicken and spicy bean dip, and my mom's baked mac and cheese with Oreo dirt pudding for Spaghetti Dinner.

Intramurals Are Back!

Brothers are competing in football and volleyball this season, and cheering on the sororities too — pledge Kirk Haun has even taken on coaching Alpha Xi Delta's team.

Diva Derby Days 2011

This year's 4th Annual Derby Days brings together Sigma Chi and four sororities (Alpha Xi Delta, Lambda Theta Alpha, Sigma Sigma Sigma, Theta Phi Alpha) around a "Divas" theme, each sorority picking a pop-culture diva to incorporate into the competition. Half the proceeds go to Sigma Chi's philanthropy, the rest split among the sororities'. The Coaches Auction was held October 5th, pairing two Eta Iota brothers with each sorority as coaches. Derby Days runs November 7th through the Awards Banquet on Friday, November 11th (Veterans Day), including the Diva Dance (formerly the Lip Sync) on the 10th. The record to beat is $5,000 raised — Eta Iota is determined to top it this year. Sponsorship inquiries went to Jeramiah Poff.

Vegas Style — Future Brother Event

Several brothers from the chapter's early years are planning a Las Vegas trip, July 23-28, 2012, staying at the Luxor and visiting Boulder Dam, the Grand Canyon, and other Vegas attractions — a totally unstructured five days, with group meals planned at the start and end of each day and open invitations to join. Organized by Mark Rogers and Bob Sween.

Want More Shirts?

Leftover shirts from Birthday are still available (My Kinda Guy $17, I ♥ SC $20, Winged Sigs $20, Children's Miracle Network $10), plus this year's recruitment shirts ($15) — contact me or Recruitment Chair Pedro Pinero.

Sorry it's been a while since the last issue — I've been swamped with school and Derby Days fundraising (about halfway to my personal goal!). If you'd like to donate, let me know. Back to schoolwork for me — I'll update you again soon!

Farewell until then... Love, Your 2011 Sweetheart
