MAY 2010 House Corporation Update

Brothers,

It is my pleasure and honor to serve as the Eta Iota House Corporation President for the 2010-2011 term and I look forward to addressing our challenges and celebrating our successes. I want to thank all of you for your continued support and commitment to HC and the Brotherhood of Sigma Chi. Congratulations to Brothers Penn and Vomacka for their new/continued role as HC trustees.

In a communiqué to our Executive Board and Trustees earlier, I stated that my goals and objectives are simple: focus on the basics. The primary reason HC exists is to provide adequate, safe, livable housing options for our undergraduate Brothers. I feel this is accomplished through sound fiscal policy, delegation and accountability of our trustees and our officers. During the month of May, the HC executive officers will be discussing the 2010-2011 budget to include dialogue on current and future proposed projects, rent, RMF and the installation of the mandatory monitored fire alarm system. Details of those discussions will be posted through the fraternity website.

Additionally, there are many milestone type events that your HC team is preparing for that include Embry-Riddles “Wings and Waves” oceanside airshow set for the Fall of 2010, possible involvement in the Tri-Province (North, Central and South Provinces) Weekend Workshop hosted by the brothers of Eta Iota scheduled for early Spring, 2011 and the capstone 40th birthday celebration tentatively scheduled for the first/second week in April of next year.

To that end, it is my hope that we will reengage our alumni brothers to participate not only with financial support but also to assist as mentors and leaders to our fellow undergraduates so that we may all may grow while continuing to challenge each other to live up to those obligations that we have voluntarily taken upon ourselves.

On behalf of the Eta Iota House Corporation, we look forward to a great year!

IHSV,

Robert Tetrault

Thank you letter from the parents of Drew Hunter

We would like to thank all of Drew’s Sigma Chi Brothers for the incredible support you have given us and his family and friends. From the moment Drew lost his life in the kayaking accident, we were enveloped by the love, support and compassion of his fellow Sigma Chi’s.

Several of you came to Vail and gave us immediate support. And when we returned home to Marshfield many of you flew in to help out and attend his Celebration of Life Service. Beautiful flowers were sent from the his Eta Iota chapter and its’ sister sorority, Alpha Xi Delta, to our home and to the church. The White Rose ceremony led by his little brother, Brad Vomacka, was incredibly meaningful and touching to everyone. To have so many Brothers participate, even some who had never even met Drew, speaks for the strong bonds that Sigma Chi develops.

When Drew first pledged, we immediately saw how seriously he took his commitment to Sigma Chi. We will always treasure the letters he wrote to us and the life reflections he made during that time. We have no doubt that the values he was raised with were strengthened due to his membership in Sigma Chi. He even told his fiancee that joining Sigma Chi had changed his life and help make him the man he was.

We thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts who knew and loved Drew, not only for your compassion to us, but also for giving him so many fond memories and strong friendships over the years. We will always consider you his brothers, and offer our home to you as he would have.

With affection and gratitude,

Gail and Jeremy Hunter
