MAY 2010 House Corporation Update

Brothers,

It is my pleasure and honor to serve as the Eta Iota House Corporation President for the 2010-2011 term and I look forward to addressing our challenges and celebrating our successes. I want to thank all of you for your continued support and commitment to HC and the Brotherhood of Sigma Chi. Congratulations to Brothers Penn and Vomacka for their new/continued role as HC trustees.

In a communiqué to our Executive Board and Trustees earlier, I stated that my goals and objectives are simple: focus on the basics. The primary reason HC exists is to provide adequate, safe, livable housing options for our undergraduate Brothers. I feel this is accomplished through sound fiscal policy, delegation and accountability of our trustees and our officers. During the month of May, the HC executive officers will be discussing the 2010-2011 budget to include dialogue on current and future proposed projects, rent, RMF and the installation of the mandatory monitored fire alarm system. Details of those discussions will be posted through the fraternity website.

Additionally, there are many milestone type events that your HC team is preparing for that include Embry-Riddles “Wings and Waves” oceanside airshow set for the Fall of 2010, possible involvement in the Tri-Province (North, Central and South Provinces) Weekend Workshop hosted by the brothers of Eta Iota scheduled for early Spring, 2011 and the capstone 40th birthday celebration tentatively scheduled for the first/second week in April of next year.

To that end, it is my hope that we will reengage our alumni brothers to participate not only with financial support but also to assist as mentors and leaders to our fellow undergraduates so that we may all may grow while continuing to challenge each other to live up to those obligations that we have voluntarily taken upon ourselves.

On behalf of the Eta Iota House Corporation, we look forward to a great year!

IHSV,

Robert Tetrault

House Corporation February 2010 Newsletter

My Brothers,

The month of January has been one of the most trying months I have seen in the past 10 years.  We have had some major security and safety issues.  Let me assure everyone; all the Brothers are safe, that corrective actions have already been taken and we will continue to evaluate the long term effect these recent events have on the property and the young men that live there.

Over the Christmas Holiday break, the property was broken into several times.  The first of these events took place somewhere around 3:00-4:00am, whereas some of our neighbors proceeded to use a cinder block to break the door and door-frame into the pump room and laundry room.  The damage was severe enough that we needed to replace the doors and frames.  Within these two locations the suspects made off with Brother Scalley’s BMX bike (which was chained to the wall in the back of the pump room), some power tools, and other odds and ends.  The following night, the DJ booth was hit and the amplifier was taken.  Neither incident was captured on our video surveillance system. Let me begin with a hardy Happy New Year and best wishes to you and your families in this coming year. I hope everyone had a save holiday season filled with much rejoice. I would be remiss if I did not apologize for my lack of communication to you all over the past three months. My efforts have been directed more at undergraduate successes and overseeing the improvements at our beloved house. This is no excuse for not informing you, our alumni Brothers, as to the conditions at 520 S Ridgewood via monthly e-mail updates. I will do all I can to correct these action in the months to come. I appreciate your patience and continued support over the past year. If you have not received any monthly updates I implore you to visit www.Etaiota.org and update your email/contact information. House Update

There comes a time in everyone’s life to throw in the towel, just give up on failed policy, to move on.  Well my Brothers that time has come.  Not for me, for the window air conditioning units around the house.  The cost of repairs from replacement of these units and damage to the walls has gone on long enough.  Your House Corporation Officers and Trustees have determined the time has come for Central Air conditioning throughout the wings of our House.  By the time you read this update, the North wing will be installed.   Continue reading

House Update

All in all a pretty slow month at the house.  The undergraduates have done some major landscaping this month.  The grass is green and alive (which doesn’t sound like much, but it is light-years forward from where we have been in the past).  They have also overhauled the planting beds; digging them out completely, laying down new weed-block fabric, removing the old wood that lined the beds and installed new, repainting the house walls that were stained from the old bushes and finally they will beginning to plant scrubs/bushes in these beds in the next few days.  Some limited funds from the alumni have been allocated with some stipulation ensuring the survival of these plants over time.
